About Franchise

The first Odyssey Art Center was founded in 1974 by Linda Perlmutter. After quitting her job as a teacher to stay home with her newborn son, Perlmutter started teaching small groups of children in the basement studio of her home. Today, her art education franchise combines history, poetry, literature, science, music, math and current events with art.

Odyssey Art Centers was opened by Linda Perlmutter to satisfy her need to be home with her child, have flexible hours, and continue to teach creative art to children and adults.

Odyssey Art Centers continues to flourish in Sleepy Hollow, New York. The program combines history, poetry, literature, science, music, math, and current events with art. Each year, the classes are devoted to a thoroughly researched, specific period of art history. The classes have studied subjects such as Renaissance art, Medieval art, Greek and Roman art, Egyptian art, and more. Adult classes are in creative watercolor with the aim of having each student develop his or her own style.

Linda Perlmutter began teaching in the New York City public school system during her college years. After the birth of her son, John, she began teaching a small group of children in the basement studio of her home. She used poetry, literature and world events as the focus that drove the lessons. Soon, due to word of mouth, she was teaching 72 adults and children a week. Classes continue to be filled from waiting lists.

Linda is also known for her watercolors and acrylics of flowers and woodlands. Her paintings have been shown in national and international galleries; published by H.G. Caspari, and purchased by corporations and private collectors. She taught the Odyssey Art program at Canyon Ranch in Lenox, Massachusetts for many years and currently trains instructors to teach the Odyssey Art program on various luxury cruise lines. She also continues to teach in her own studio.
