We are all moms, with four different sets of experiences in balancing work and our home lives after having children. We all knew that there had to be another option for stay-at-home parents. Today’s business paradigm of working employees as many hours as possible was just not for us, or for anyone who wanted to be the best parents possible as well as be the best employee possible. We also knew that many others felt the same way we did.
When we thought about opening 10 til 2, we talked about the two types of people we know. The first group is comprised of people in full time jobs who wanted desperately to have more time in the day for themselves, usually meaning more time to spend with their families. The second group is comprised of people who have chosen to walk away from full-time, highly paid, challenging positions. These people are also often desperate to have more time for themselves, time to think, to interact with adults, to get their neurons firing again.
There was no option in the middle. Now there is!
We started 10 til 2 in Denver and proved we were right. College educated candidates’ applications flowed into our database and clients started to call. We found ourselves running a wonderful, profitable business. Life was good (except for the constant stream of phone calls and emails asking when we were going to franchise our business); other cities needed 10 til 2! Finally, after duplicating our business into ones that can be easily duplicated, we were ready to take 10 til 2 to the rest of the country.

The concept of 10 til 2 began years ago. Independently, the founders of 10 til 2 realized there was a growing need to provide part-time jobs for people who were discontented with the business paradigm that one had to choose to work full time or leave the work world after having a family. Hand-in-hand with that we knew that there was an enormous need in industry for bright, motivated, college educated employees to work in positions that did not require a full time person. In September of 2003 the four founding partners of 10 til 2 met and realized that we wanted to fill this need. We organized 10 til 2 in November of 2003. Our database of college-educated candidates grew rapidly and by January of 2004 we had made our first placement.
Our growth has continued at an enormous pace since that first placement. We soon realized that more than just parents were interested in part-time jobs. Our database continued to grow with retirees, graduate students, and others looking to enhance their work/life balance. Companies loved us, candidates loved us, and the media loved us! We found ourselves the focus of stories on 3 of Denver’s major television channels, the two major Denver newspapers and numerous local monthly publications.
