Food has gone to the Dogs! David Cheren, the founder of The Dog House was born in the ’30s in Boston, one of three sons of immigrant parents. The entire family was required to work in the family hot dog business including Dave and his brothers who worked both before and after the school day. His parents stressed that hard work and education would provide limitless opportunities in the U.S.
Dave’s two brothers went on to become acclaimed Boston physicians while Dave left home at the age of 18 to attend UCLA. Dave never forgot the wonderful taste of those special Boston hot dogs. Luckily, he found a small take-out stand near campus that served delicious hot dogs reminiscent of those from Boston. Needless to say, on his limited budget, Dave became one of their best customers.
Dave continued his schooling and in 1968 began a successful 30 year career as a trial attorney. As much as Dave enjoyed the practice of law he always dreamed that one day he would open his own hot dog business and share the taste of those special East Coast hot dogs with others.
