On a hot summer day in July, 1945, Alice Handel began serving ice cream out of her husbands gas station in Youngstown, Ohio. Her first batches were made using old fashioned recipes with fresh fruit she picked from her own backyard. Since then, Handel’s has grown to include locations in California, Florida, Indiana, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Arizona and Oregon.
The menu has expanded to include over 100 flavors of homemade ice cream and yogurt. Handel’s success has been documented in many national publications including USA Today, People Magazine, Chocolatier Magazine, and US News and World Report.
Recently published books “The Ten Best of Everything” and “Everybody Loves Ice Cream” both recognize Handel’s as one of the best ice creams in the world. Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream is made fresh daily, one batch at a time, at each location, using products, equipment, methods and recipes exclusive only to Handel’s.
WE NEVER SKIMP! Fistfuls of nuts, creamy caramel, deep dark chocolate, fresh fruits and fluffy marshmallows are blended into each batch as it is drawn from specially designed machines. It is this T.L.C. that has helped Handel’s continue its long tradition of excellence. We want to thank our customers who have helped us grow our reputation from coast to coast and from generation to generation.
Thank you for your interest in a Handel’s Ice Cream Franchise. Handel’s has been in the business of making and selling homemade ice cream since 1945, a concept laden with tradition and success. Our ice cream is made fresh daily on premises at each location.
With many requests on a daily basis, we feel it’s about time to SHARE THE TASTE! We will continue to maintain the quality that has made Handel’s Ice Cream a family tradition for generations and generations to come with a steady, controlled growth.
Becoming a Franchise Step by Step
A frozen dessert franchise is a solid business opportunity and our reputation for strength and stability is an important ingredient in your future success. By capitalizing on the names, knowledge and stability of the system, the franchise entrepreneur has a competitive edge over someone starting a business on their own.
Our franchisees are important to us. Through our franchise owner network, we can assist new and existing franchisees with the support services for operations, marketing and training. The franchisee’s input has a tremendous impact on business and product development. OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH OUR FRANCHISEES IS SECOND TO NONE!
Our successful franchise relationships did not come without hard work. Any franchised business is only as good as the franchisee is prepared to make it. It may start with the expertise and reputation of the franchiser…but it all comes down to you and your initiative, effort and determination.
As with any business opportunity, it is the potential franchisee’s responsibility and obligation to conduct a thorough and independent investigation of the business, and to consult with your accountant and/or attorney regarding potential benefits and risks associated with a new business venture.
